Samuel J Roan/Rowan and his wife Mary [Graves] Rowan came with their family from Bladen Co shortly after the Civil War. Mary is one of the children of Nathaniel and Lucy [Cheshire] Graves of Robeson/Bladen Co. Their four eldest were in the Civil War, Mordecai (misspelled Murdock) died of disease in Winchester, VA, Sampson B Graves died of wounds received at Ox Hill, VA, John F and Nathan R Graves survived with disabilities. I was looking for Mordecai's two children Virginia B and Lucy G Graves in the 1880 LDS census when I found them in the household of S J Bowan (misspelled on LDS l880?). This is how I found Mary and who she had married. Mary is buried in Bellevue cemetery in New Hanover, I don't know if Samuel is there. Newton N Rowan his wife and some children are in Oakdale (I found on cemetery transcription). I don't know yet what happened to Mordecai's Virginia or Lucy Graves. Any information on this Graves family welcome. Email direct at: Zelia Cline Posted Friday, June 27, 2008
