I am trying to find information on my grandmother. Family lore says her name was Nellie Cola Carnegie and that she married William Henry Mintz in 1889 at the First Baptist Church of Wilmington. Supposedly, her mother died when she was two and she was raised with Alice and Maybelle Pigford who were the daughters of the attending physician. I have since learned that Dr. Scott Pigford never married but he had nieces with those names. Nellie was born around 1873 but the first record of her was the news article about her marriage and she was called Nellie Jones in that article. I have looked through newspaper articles in 1875 in an attempt to locate information about the death of Nellie’s mother but have not been successful. (AS I UNDERSTAND IS/WAS INCLUDED WITH NEW HANOVER COUNTY) AND DIED SEPT 13, 1823 IN BRYAN COUNTY, GA.--WIFE CATHERINE MCGEE. I AM TRYING TO CONFIRM OR FIND ANY INFO POSSIBLE ON HIS "ALLEGED" FATHER--- JOHN SIKES-SYKES BORN 1738, PROBABLY IN VIRGINIA.. THERE WAS A JOHN SIKES IN BLADEN COUNTY IN 1763 WITH A JOHN AND JOSHUA LISTED ON THE TAX ROLL. A JOHN SIKES PATENED LAND IN BLADEN NC IN 1784.
