Will of John Larkins dated 31 Aug 1776, New Hanover County, NC Wills; proved January Term 1782 In the name of God amen. I, John Larkins, of the County of New Hanover and Province of North Carolina being in perfect health, both in body and mind, but mindful of the mortality of human nature, think proper this my last Will and Testament; and I do hereby disannul and make void all other testamental writings made heretofore by me. First, I give my soul to Almighty God who made it and my body to be decently interred at the discretion of my friends in full and certain hope of receiving it at the last day according to the scriptures. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved brother William Larkins my negroe fellow Harry to him and his heirs forever, also their assigns. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved brother James Larkins my two negroe fellows Jack and James, to him and his heirs forever also his assigns. Item, I give unto my beloved nephew John Larkins, son of William Larkins, the following negroes, viz, Tom, Dorcit and Sarah, for him and his heirs forever and my fellow Ciotta for and during the term of five years, after which term he is to be set free for ninety nine years, also two of my plantation horses, also my plantation whereon I now live, which plantation horses and three negroes Tom, Dorcit and Sarah, after his paying my just debts, I give to him, his heirs, and assigns forever, and Citta for five years as aforesaid. Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved sisters, Margaret Evans, Mary Devane and Ann Devane, all and singular, the remainder of my estate to be equally divided among them, except my house winch Betty, who I give free at my death for ninety nine years. And I leave my trust friend John Larkins, son of William Larkins, sole executor, to execute this my last Will and Testament. Signed, sealed and acknowledged this August 31st 1776 in presence of Timothy Bloodworth Jacob Williams John Larkins (seal) New Hanover County January Term 1782 The within last Will and Testament of John Larkins, deceased, was exhibited in Court and proved by the oath of Jacob Williams a subscribing witness thereto, who swore that he saw the testator sign, seal, publish and declare the same to be and contain his last Will and Testament. Also that he was of sound and disposing mind and memory, and that Timothy Bloodworth signed at the same time as a concurring evidence thereto.
