I'm looking for the parents and siblings of Shepherd HERRING born about 1804 in North Carolina. He was in Jackson County, Florida for the 1860 Census. The family composition was listed as: Name Age Sex Born Sheopard Herring 56 M N.C. Julia A. ? Herring 46 F N.C. Martha Herring 23 F N.C. Martin V. Herring 23 M N.C. CREAMER, EDENFIELD posted by Paul Edenfield on Wednesday, August 23, 2000

I would be interested in any information on any CREAMERS or EDENFIELDS in NC during the colonial period. I am researching the possibility that one of my ancestors, Thomas EDENFIELD, married Elizabeth CREAMER in NC. What I've managed to find on Thomas is very limited, but he was in the Winyaw Bay area of SC (close to the present NC/SC border) in 1737 and was in Brunswick, (then New Hanover Co.), NC (again, near the present NC/SC border) in 1740. Then there isn't any more word on him until 1764 when 200 acres in Orangeburgh District SC were surveyed for him. It could well be that he was in NC for much of that period 1740-1764 and that he married Elizabeth there. But I have absolutely no information on Elizabeth CREAMER, only the family tradition that this was Thomas' wife. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPTON posted by Wendell Upton on Friday, September 1, 2000

I am beginning my search of the UPTON family in North Carolina and could use some help. I have researched my Upton family from the present day back through Mississippi (1767-present) and back through Georgia (1767-1857). I suspect they came from England to North Carolina and then Columbia County, Georgia. There are Uptons in Camden, Pasquotank and Perquimans counties who have been there since about 1673. However, I have obtained enough information to feel they are not my ancestors. I also have some land records of John Upton in Bladen county in 1765, 1767 and 1769. Also, James Upton sold land in Anson County in 1770 and Robert Upton bought land in Bladen County in 1767, 1775, 1783 and 1791. Also, Edward Upton bought land in Caswell County in 1783. These may be my ancestors. I would like to find out if any Upton families came up the Cape Fear River into New Hanover County prior to 1767. Also if there were Upton families in the New Hanover area from 1767-1783. After I explore the New Hanover area thoroughly for Uptons; then, I will attempt to learn as much as I can about the Uptons in Bladen County and surrounding areas. Any help you can provide will be appreciated greatly. Wendell Upton

GABLE, GOBBLE, GOBEL, GOBLE posted by K. Haddad on Saturday, September 23, 2000

My ancestor, WILLIAM GOBLE said that the original Goble was JOHN GOBLE who escaped the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre of Huguenots in France and eventually came to Massachusetts. The family migrated to the Carolinas, then some left around 1820 or before. I think they were Baptists. Can anyone help me confirm this story?

COOPER, STEPHENS, STEVENS posted by Gary W. Cooper on Tuesday, October 17, 2000

Does anyone know where I could find church records 1750-1850 regarding births, marriages and deaths of New Hanover County residents? I am particularly trying to find the marriage record of a Drusellah/Drusilla STEVENS/STEPHENS to a -----COOPER ca. 1805-1810. She was the daughter of John and Mary STEVENS/STEPHENS, and had a son William S. Cooper born 1810, based upon her fathers will and his Family Bible Records. I realize the couple could have been wed in churches or by pastors in the area from which Sampson Co. was made or the surrounding counties. The marriage could have been performed by one of the Rev. COOPERs, Fleet or William, or by Rev. Edward Brown, as it appears that the Mr. Cooper in question was related to the Rev. Coopers and Miss Stevens/Stephens was related to Rev. Brown.
